The operator will back the World Snooker Championship for the next three years

Betfred has signed its second sports sponsorship in a week after becoming the title sponsor of the Scottish League Cup domestic club football competition.

The betting operator will back the renamed Betfred Cup for three seasons, from 2016-17 to 2018-19. The deal comes after the bookmaker last week also renewed its title sponsorship of the World Snooker Championship.

The new deal further cements Scottish football’s links with the gaming industry, with Ladbrokes the title sponsor of all four divisions of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).

John Haddock, chief executive of Betfred, said: “We are very pleased to become sponsors of the Scottish League Cup at the inception of its new and exciting format. The SPFL have shown us great enthusiasm and we look forward to a continued and successful relationship.”

Meanwhile, Betfred has confirmed it will continue as the title sponsor of the World Snooker Championship until the end of the 2019 tournament following the recent conclusion of the 2016 event.

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “We are proud to continue our sponsorship; it is an iconic much-loved event high on the sporting calendar. We were well up for extending our sponsorship but the viewing figures throughout the world, and particularly in China, certainly got it over the line.” says: “The appearance of Ding Junhui in this year’s World Snooker Championship final was a major coup for Betfred, which was boosted by exposure in the huge Chinese market.”
