New feature promises authentic poker experience

Leading social casino operator Zynga has rolled out World Poker Tour-branded tournaments for its Zynga Poker app.

The launch of the new tournament feature comes after the companies signed a partnership in February this year. It allows users to play for higher stakes, with the chance to win bigger virtual currency payouts and enjoy an experience that mirrors that of the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) land-based events.

Users can compete at traditional nine-person tables, or against five others in a faster tournament mode, in what Zynga has said is its largest ever in-game partnership. The WPT-branded offering will be expanded further with new competitive modes to be added in future.

World Poker Tour chief executive Adam Pliska said he was thrilled to see the branded tournaments go live, describing it as the latest step in a “transformational” partnership.

He said the tournaments would allow Zynga Poker players the opportunity to “experience the true feeling of competing on the global World Poker Tour stage.”

“Our Zynga Poker players are an extremely passionate group who aspire to feel like true poker champions,” Zynga president of publishing Bernard Kim added.

“Our World Poker Tour-themed tournaments enhance our free-to-play Zynga Poker social casino experience and bring the most premier name in the sport of poker directly into the player’s hands. We are thrilled to invite the World Poker Tour into our virtual world to create an even more authentic and immersive experience that players will love.”

Zynga and the WPT will promote the launch by co-sponsoring NASCAR driver Matt DiBenedetto as he competes in the South Point 400, a stock car race taking place at the Las Vegas Speedway on September 16th.
