Delaware’s online gaming market has suffered another blow after it was revealed that revenue generated from internet gambling has slumped to its lowest monthly total since a regulated market was launched in the US state last year.

Figures posted by the Delaware Lottery show that revenue generated from online gambling activities in October amounted to just  $130,469 (€104,996). This total is only slightly higher than the $111,388 achieved in November 2013 when online gambling first became regulated in the state.

The latest monthly figure is around $15,000 lower than the amount posted in September and further away from the monthly revenue record of $240,763 that was achieved in April of this year.

The Delaware Lottery also noted that of the total revenue in October, just $28,510 was generated from online poker activity. This amount is some way short of the record $106,900 in internet poker revenue that was achieved in December 2013, just one month after the state's regulated market was launched.

In addition, the Delaware Lottery said just 315 new online gambling accounts were created during October.

Delaware is one of just three states in the US to have legalised some form of online gaming, alongside Nevada and New Jersey. However, Delaware is some way behind the other two states in terms of revenue.

New Jersey is the most successful regulated market, posting monthly internet gambling revenue in the millions of dollars, while Nevada regularly posts monthly online poker revenue in excess of $700,000.

Delaware’s performance in the online gaming size has been impacted by the relatively small size of the state’s market.

Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway are the only three gambling facilities that offer online gaming services in Delaware, while both New Jersey and Nevada boast markets with numerous operators and some of the biggest names in the online gaming sector.
