Country's regulated iGaming market opened on January 1

Sweden’s recently-rebranded gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has approved three more companies to operate in the country’s newly-regulated iGaming market, which opened on January 1.

AhaWorld, for its Aha Bingo brand, and White Hat Gaming have each been awarded online casino licences, while Hero Gaming has secured online gaming and betting licences.

The trio were awarded licences on December 27, bringing the total number of licensees to 60 ahead of the market opening on January 1.

The majority have since rolled out the first licensed iGaming products in Sweden, including GVC Holdings, which is live via its bwin and PartyPoker brands.

“We are delighted to get the year off to a positive start with the launch of bwin.se and Partypoker.se," GVC chief operating officer Shay Segev said.

“We are confident that Swedish customers will enjoy what we believe is the best and most comprehensive online gaming experience in the market,” Segev explained. "Launching two new labels in such a short space of time after receiving our licence, demonstrates the flexibility of our unique proprietary technology platform.”

Online casino software provider Microgaming has also rolled out its content for a number of partners, including GVC’s bwin brand. The likes of The Stars Group, bet365, LeoVegas, Kindred Group’s Unibet and Betsson have also rolled out Microgaming titles.

“Sweden is a significant market for Microgaming and we are thrilled to offer our operators in the region a fully integrated solution to ensure compliance in line with regulations set by the Swedish Gaming Authority,” Microgaming chief operating officer Andrew Clucas said.

“This move continues our strategic expansion in key regulated markets, working closely with regulators and supporting operators as they grow their offering with our diverse portfolio of content built with player protection in mind,” he added.
