Scientific Games Corporation has appointed Nikos Konstakis as SG Digital’s Vice President of Sportsbook Product, with the firm looking to strengthen its senior management team ahead of further US expansion.

Konstakis will be responsible for overseeing OpenBet’s product development roadmap, as well as delivering and enhancing its sportsbook proposition,

Keith O’Loughlin, SVP Sportsbook and Platforms at SG Digital, told “The Supreme Court’s decision to repeal PASPA and pave the way for legalised sports betting means it’s an exciting time for the industry.

“At SG Digital, we’re ensuring every aspect of our offering is fully prepared to meet the requirements for those customers ready to offer sports betting, and a key part of this is to establish a team with the highest quality possible. Nikos is an important addition to our senior sportsbook team, with his experience set to help us greatly in making sure our OpenBet platform is ready to hit the ground running in the US, as well as introducing exciting new product developments to improve the customer experience.

Konstakis has a wealth of industry experience, having previously held a VP Trading position at OpenBet and spending 16 years at Intralot, an Athens-based gaming company. His last position at Intralot was Group Director of Betting.

“We are very confident that Nikos and the rest of the team can help grow our product portfolio, and with his expertise ensure SG Digital's OpenBet remains the market-leading sportsbook,” O’Loughlin added.

SG Digital further reiterated its global growth plans this week when announcing it will significantly expand its offices in Stockholm to meet growing business needs.

The office brings employees from across the division into a central location focusing on technical operations and gaming and platform development initiatives. An additional 50 employees are expected to be recruited to the Swedish capital in 2018 alone.

Chris Armes, CTO of SG Digital, told “Expanding our presence in Sweden makes strategic sense for us as we look to build our tech capabilities. Scandinavia has an established reputation as a base for highly-talented tech individuals, and the addition of 50 new employees will play a significant role in driving product innovation across our business areas.

“Having a centralised site within the Nordic region will give SG Digital a big advantage going forward. Teamed with our expansion in other important gaming regions, this will allow us to assemble an array of talented teams from diverse backgrounds, all of which will bring their own unique and innovative approach to product development.”

Totally Gaming says: Exciting times for Scientific Games, and its SG Digital division in particular. SG, like many betting firms, seems to be rejuvenated by the Supreme Court’s repealing of PASPA and the potentially lucrative opportunities it has created.
