Senator Mark Amodei, Member of the US House of Representatives from Nevada's 2nd District, has called for the industry to come together in order to push through iGaming regulation in the States.

In his opening speech at this year's Global iGaming Summit & Expo, he applauded the gaming industry for putting in place a firm regulatory framework in its land-based operations, but warned that sitting on the fence could be damaging to the future of iGaming in the country, remarking that a unified approach could mean legislation within the year.

"The gaming industry has built up a good reputation in terms of regulation, but if we continue to do nothing about iGaming regulation then you play into the hands of those who oppose you," he said. "You have set the groundwork to finish this up - the only challenge is to resolve the issue amongst yourselves. The bill that will pass is what you folks can come together on."

He also favoured a federal ruling, commenting that a state-by-state law could lead to a 'patchwork' approach to legislation and that taxation could be used as a bargaining chip to push the issue forward in Capitol Hill.

"Has anyone in the industry been taxed short of double digits? This should be the motivation for you to unite. Moving online is a gamble and you can win big, but individual state attempts to bring in online gaming could lead to state laws that don't live up to a federal level."

However, he commended the industry for proceeding with caution in order to preserve business, comparing iGaming legislation to other entertainment industries.

"For the music and movie industries, a move online has turned out badly legislatively. The question is how do we utilise the internet appropriately so the gaming industry can continue to deliver a quality experience."
