The online giant entered the market midway through the month

PokerStars entry into the New Jersey online gaming market helped the US state to achieve record figures in March 2016.

Despite launching just half way through the month, the Amaya-owned brand played a role in New Jersey accruing revenue of $15.5m (€13.8m), which was an increase of 17.8 per cent on March 2015 and also six per cent up on February of this year.

According to figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE), PokerStars’ partner in the state, Resorts Digital, recorded online gaming win of $1.8m in March, which was almost 40 per cent up on the previous month.

According to PokerScout, PokerStars NJ was the most popular platform in the state within its first week of operations, with figures from the website showing it averaged 170 cash game players, compared to 140 at WSOP/888 and 95 at Party Borgata NJ.

Borgata ($4.2m), Tropicana ($3.2m), Caesars Interactive NJ ($3.2m) and Golden Nugget ($3.1m) all saw year-over-year gains in March as well.

However, despite the success of the New Jersey online gaming market, the state did suffer a drop in casino revenue, with this figure down from $190.7m in March last year to $187.5m last month. This decline led to a slight drop in total gaming win for the state in March, with total revenue slipping from $203.9m last year to $203m, a decline of 0.4 per cent. says: “The pull of the PokerStars brand was always going to cause waves in the New Jersey online gaming market, which has not flourished as some might have expected since its launch almost three years ago. PokerStars made an immediate impact on state revenue and it will be interesting to see how it continues to grow in the coming months.”
