Link-up with media giant Marca heralded as significant step

Playtech has teamed up with Marca, one of Spain’s leading sports media brands, to launch a new online and mobile sportsbook in a move that will significantly boost its presence in the country.

In partnership with Marca owner Unidad Editorial, Playtech will manage the new platform, which has been developed for the company's flagship Marca brand.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Playtech has migrated all existing Marca players from the previous legacy offering to the new platform, which will not only offer sportsbook services but also table games and a casino, with live casino and progressive and slot titles to launch in the coming months.

“We’re delighted to be working with Playtech on the next phase of Marca’s online and mobile betting and gaming offering and the migration to their technology has been highly successful,” Unidad Editorial business development manager Elicia Martinez said.

“The Spanish market is rapidly maturing and we’re confident Playtech will be able to deliver the sophisticated and highly engaging offering our readers want.”

Shimon Akad, chief operating officer at Playtech, added: “The Marca brand will reach new heights by using our industry-leading, best-performing sports betting and gaming omni-channel software, platform, systems, and content, and we look forward to continue working closely with the team in the months and years ahead.” says:

Marca is one of the most recognisable and popular brands in Spanish sport, and this deal could have a major impact on Playtech’s future in the country as well as the wider European market. Should the platform perform well, then publishers from other countries across the continent may also call on Playtech to develop similar platforms for their own brands, which will in turn have a positive impact on the company’s financial results. As reported previously by, Spain is enjoying something of a boom in gaming, according to the latest figures from the country’s DGOJ gaming watchdog.
