Asia will become an increasingly important focus of the World Poker Tour through a recently-agreed partnership with Ourgame International Holdings, spokesperson Richard Ryan has told

Under the alliance, Ourgame will licence products and services on an exclusive basis in more than a dozen countries across Asia.

Ourgame snapped up rights to use the tour’s logo and trademark exclusively in Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Korea, Nepal, Macau, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam and on a non-exclusive basis in Japan.

“In summary, it’s really about bringing the WPT product to the Asian people,” Ryan told

Coverage of selected final tables from selected WPT National and Main Tour events will also be streamed live, while WPT-branded free play and social games plus WPT programmes will be distributed in the region, which is seen as a growing market for poker in general.

Ryan added: “There will be more WPT Main Tour and National events in the entire Asian region.

“Some of these will be live streamed, thereby giving more access to the WPT product in territories that we’ve not been before.

“There is also the TV distribution component of the deal, creating the potential for hundreds of millions of people to watch the World Poker Tour show.”

China, despite obvious barriers due to gambling being illegal under the country’s law, remains the big potential prize in poker. The government has blocked access to some offshore poker websites.
