Number Crunching - Usain Bolt, Robert Pires and Drone Racing

A breakdown of some of the more interesting figures to emerge from the gambling industry in the past seven days.

4,788 - The number of applicants Sky Betting and Gaming has considered since launching its Graduate Academy last year. The applications come from candidates across key digital hubs in the UK, including Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Nottingham. After three weeks of assessment, 32 offers have been made for the 2017 Yorkshire-based scheme. The company also revealed a 4% rise in the number of female applicants to reach this stage. Sky Bettind and Gaming has now taken its number of Graduate Academy employees to 75.

7.5% - The percentage of corporate debt ‘notes’ on market tender from New York-listed gambling and lottery technology/systems provider IGT Group. The Group has set a target price of $500 million for the Notes. The firm is looking for an outright buyer or multiple parties to purchase the notes which are due for repayment in 2019. The price is $1106.25 per $1000 for its “tender offer consideration”. The IGT leadership has highlighted that lowering the firm’s group debt (approx $7.3 billion) is a key corporate objective.

75 million - The estimated reach of Drone Racing to fans worldwide. Betfair this week teamed up with the Drone Racing League (DRL) to offer betting markets on the final race of the Allianz World Championship Circuit which took place at Alexandra Palace on June 13. The race took place as part of London’s Tech Week, Europe’s largest festival of technology which concludes on June 16. Drone Racing has been dubbed one of the ‘world’s fastest growing sports’ with the recent season having been broadcast across 75 countries worldwide.

79 - The number of times Arsenal legend Robert Pires was capped by his country, France. The former winger comes on board as a bwin brand ambassador. Pires will engage with bwin customers across France and UK as ambassador for the European sportsbook. Part of his role will see him produce and feature in a series of short films undertaking a variety of sporting challenges. They will then be promoted across bwin’s websites and social media channels along with opportunities for fans to take part in competitions with exclusive prizes.

165 billion - The amount of hands (minimum) that have been dealt on PokerStars. In more ambassador news, Amaya Inc’s online poker subsidiary PokerStars has announced Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man as its new Brand Ambassador. Bolt took to Facebook to announce “I’m All-in” and his marketing initiative with the poker company. The video saw Bolt issue a challenge to Kevin Hart, another ambassador stating that  he wanted to bring “speed and smarts to poker”.
