Number crunching - Charity football, bankruptcy and one trillion dollars

A breakdown of some of the more notable numbers to emerge from the gaming industry over the past week

30,000 - The amount of live markets that Spanish operator iJuego now has access to monthly after signing a deal with BetConstruct. This is BetConstruct’s second partnership in Spain after it established a deal with R Franco.

George Voyatzis, Commercial Manager of BetConstruct, said: We look forward to the partnership with Group Comar, who will now be equipped with our market leading Sportsbook of up to 30,000 live events per month and flexible and comprehensive markets. We look forward to growing and developing our Sportsbook for regulated markets further in the coming 12 months”.

97,000,000 - A deal has been struck between Sportech and Burlywood Capital for the sale of The Football Pools for £97.2m.

Burlywood is an investment fund which has a focus on media and entertainment. A new company will be listed on the AIM for the purpose of the acquisition with the following people set to be involved in these capacities; Ian Hogg (Chairman), Conleth Byrne (Chief Executive and current Managing Director of The Football Pools), Carl Lynn (Chief Financial Officer and current Finance Director of The Football Pools), Brian Mattingley (Non-Executive Director) and Liz Catchpole (Non-Executive Director).

18,000,000,000 - The Caesars CEOC mediator has quit amidst criticism of how the bankruptcy process is unfolding. The $18bn bankruptcy case is unsurprisingly a complex one and Judge Joseph Farnan who was called upon to mediate between the company and its creditors has now quit.

Farnan had been criticised by US bankruptcy judge Benjamin Goldgar for the exceptionally slow progress of the case.

30 - Tombola has teamed up with Sheffield based creative agency Über to create a 30 second advert to advertise its new Tombola Arcade product. This is its first ad campaign aimed at the UK market. Tombola is aiming to be the best value UK online arcade site and offers game from 5p and upwards.

Tombola’s Head of Marketing, Dawn-Elizabeth Howe, commented on the campaign launch: “It was great to work with Über again on this brand new product and launch campaign. Having worked with Über for 4 years now we are confident they understand our brand and would deliver us a campaign that fitted our brand values.”

2,500 - Gala Bingo organised a charity football tournament amongst its numerous regional branches with the Slough branch emerging victorious.

A total of £2,500 was raised for Macmillan cancer support. Staff member Lucy Thomson who organised the event in memory of her grandfather said: “It was great for all one region to become one and raise money for a charity so close to my heart. Both Gala Bingo staff and members battled it out to be winners if the The Slough Charity football tournament, it was very competitive.”

1,000,000,000,000 - According to a report by Juniper Research online gambling wagers will escalate in the next few years and jump from a current value of $550bn to not far off $1tn, or rather $950bn to be precise.

The report, titled ‘Mobile & Online Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries, Betting & VR 2016-2021’ found that gambling activities are increasingly gravitating to online. More interestingly it argued that technologies such as VR will provide a further stimulus to the online casino market.
