North Rhine-Westphalia to join German gaming treaty

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 Totally Gaming

Policy makers in Germany's most populated federal state North Rhine-Westphalia have voted in favour of joining the country's state treaty on online gaming to permit sports betting, but not online poker. The vote in North Rhine-Westphalia means Germany is likely to soon have a single, unified market for online gaming.

The German State Gaming Treaty has divided critics who argue that it breaks EU law, with a number of operators lodging complaints and the German Monopolies Commission expressing concerns.
