Spain has seen a big rise in online gaming revenues

Gaming systems provider NetEnt has gone live in Spain on the day that the country announced that online gaming revenues had risen by almost 25 per cent compared to last year.

NetEnt’s games are now available through operators such as 888, Premiere Megaplex and Paf, with the company having been granted gaming licenses for the Spanish market by the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).

“Following our successful licensing process in Spain and customer integrations we are delighted to launch our award-winning games with 888, Premiere and Paf for the Spanish gaming market. I am confident that their players will enjoy the unique player experience that our games offer," said Enrico Bradamante, chief of European market operations.

In April, NetEnt head of investor relations Roland Glasfors told that "we don't give any detailed forecasts but our growth strategy is to expand on regulated markets and North America and Spain are both very interesting long-term initiatives for us".

The company had seen revenue in Q1 2015 reaching SEK258.3m (€27.5m/$29.9m), which was up 37.1 per cent on Q1 2014, and will now hope to build on that in a thriving Spanish market.

The DGOJ said today that turnover during the three months to March 31 amounted to just under €2bn ($2.2bn), which represents an increase of 24.5 per cent on the total posted in Q1 2014.

Gross gaming revenue in Spain during the opening three months of the year also rose by 13.4 per cent on a year-on-year basis to €77.4m.

Betting remains the most popular form of online gambling in the country, and accounts for 50.2 per cent of total gameplay during the first quarter.

Eurobet, Novomatic, Bally Interactive and Betclic are among the operators that have been handed licences and will launch in Spain this year, joining the likes of NetEnt, William Hill, 888 and
