NetEnt has added to its ever expanding portfolio with the release of Jumanji, as the firm attempts to bring its own twist to its universe “by transforming the calamities that befell Alan into features with slot mechanics”.

Based upon the original 1995 release, and not its multi-million dollar 2017 counterpart, it encapsulates a “unique” and “first of its kind” board game component, that combines elements of board games and free spins features.

Praising the movies fit from which to base an online slot title, Henrik Fagerlund, chief product officer at NetEnt, explained to that timing played its part when the initial approach to work on the new release was made: “The 2017 movie had not been released when we were presented with the opportunity to produce a game based on the 1995 title, but we knew there was a sequel in the making. We immediately felt interest in the 1995 movie would be reignited as a result of the new movie, so it was a no brainer.”

With a very detailed and strategic process undertaken when deciding which big name TV series or movie to base a new title on, several factors can be crucial when determining the potential success of such releases.

Fagerlund went on to talk about the role that consumer trends and demands play, when not only dictating which huge name from the big or small screen to select, but also with regarding to the approach taken towards the vertical as a whole: “Consumer trends do dictate our approach to a large extent, but we also listen to the operators and the player insights they can give us.

“Diversity in our game portfolio is key, and moving forward, you can expect to see more focused efforts from NetEnt with regards to jackpot games, VIP games and localised content.”

Totally Gaming says: A clear direction has been taken by a part of NetEnt’s operations in recent times, with it’s Jumanji release following similar such examples with Narcos and Vikings, launched earlier in the year. The advantages of aligning a brand with a hugely popular TV series or Hollywood movie are abundantly clear, with NetEnt likely to enjoy huge success with such a cult favourite as Jumanji.
