UK-wide self-exclusion scheme allows users to block access to all licensed gambling sites

GamStop, the UK-wide self-exclusion scheme that allows users to block access to all licensed gambling sites, has hailed the rapid uptake of the solution.

While the product is yet to be officially launched, 38,000 players have registered for the solution since it went live in April this year.

The product is available free of charge to players and allows users to exclude themselves from all sites through a single registration. Users can choose to self-exclude for periods ranging from six months to five years, while its site also links to gambling addiction charity GamCare and financial advisory service the National Debtline.

GamStop added that it had received a number of positive testimonials from players, with players saying that they have been able to save money and even that it had changed their life.

“We are very pleased with the response to GamStop so far as the initial uptake proves there is clearly a need for this scheme,” GamStop chief executive Fiona Palmer said.

“We will shortly be embarking on our first phase of evaluation which will help shape future improvements and enhancements to the service going forward.”
