Australian entertainment group Crown Resorts and online betting company BetEasy have completed the launch of a new internet wagering brand in the country.

‘Crownbet’ is the result of a joint venture between the two companies that began last year. Under the partnership, BetEasy’s sportsbook business was combined with the sportsbook offering of Crown’s Betfair Australia subsidiary.

The new online betting platform is now available in the country, with punters having access to various wagering options across a range of sports such as football, tennis, Australian rules football, basketball and horse racing.

Under the joint venture agreement signed by both companies last year, Crown will hold a 67 per cent majority stake in Crownbet. BetEasy owners will take the remaining 33-per-cent stake.

Speaking at the time of the joint venture agreement, Crown chairman James Packer said the new business would have the ability compete with the mostly foreign-owned operators that currently dominate the Australian market.

“This exciting new venture will help build an Australian-owned business that can compete strongly with the largely foreign-owned competitors in our wagering industry,” Packer said.
