Nick Barr has recently joined gaming technology provider Genii as sales director. Here, he tells about the attraction of his new role and how sales in iGaming compares to other industries…

Nick Barr
Sales Director, Genii
Education: Glasgow University, Business Management
Experience: Tain, iResponse Centres, Wescot Credit, Thomas Cook Could you tell us a bit more about your background and how you came into the gaming industry?

Nick Barr: I started my career in the travel industry managing customers and staff in various oversea locations, which allowed me to develop my people-management skills and face-to-face sales approach.

Looking to broaden my career, I came across iGaming, which looked to be the fast-paced environment in which I thrive.

I was fortunate to land a business development position with Tain. At the time getting a sales position without gaming experience was quite difficult. It was a steep learning curve getting to know the industry but I quickly managed to utilise the skills I had developed over the years. Is there anything that makes sales in the gaming industry different to other industries?

Nick Barr: The industry is evolving at a much faster rate than other industries I have been involved with. Changes in regulations and new markets means new approaches and targets are always coming in to play. You also need to have flexible software and a skilled development team behind you in order to adapt quickly to industry/operator requirements or you will be left behind. Fortunately, my new company, Genii, has this in place. What has been your biggest achievement, or the key moment, in your career so far?

Nick Barr: Being driven by sales, it would have to be my first sale over seven figures. It started from a cold call through to contract signing, all done without meeting in person. Any salesman will agree this gives you a great sense of achievement and makes you even more enthusiastic about the next opportunity. Tell us more about Genii and what attracted you to the company.

Nick Barr: Genii is the most creative and innovative company I have seen for many years. Genii thinks out of the box and has come up with great ideas, which are converted to reality. Being a part of the team and being the driving force to bring Genii products to the market is a great challenge and promises to be very exciting.

Genii offers the full package, both in the development of revolutionary casino games, Spin16 among others, and the real-time intuitive back office and management system, which is unlike any platform in the market today. Genii pushes the boundaries on product development and focuses on what operators want in today’s market. What are your targets and main challenges for your first year at Genii?

Nick Barr: The main focus will be to bring the Genii brand to market and educating operators about the Genii offering.
Once introduced, I have no doubt operators will be as excited as I am with the leading-edge content and visionary real-time platform.

Having spent significant time and resource researching every component of each game, from the background sounds, movement in the games, down to the colour of the spin buttons, Genii has managed to deliver the ultimate player experience.
