888poker replaces PokerStars and Full Tilt in Sweden

888poker, the online poker brand of 888, has secured a deal with the Svenska Pokerförbunde (Swedish Poker Federation) to become the new online host for the organisation’s Swedish Poker Championships (Poker-SM).

Amaya-owned rival brands PokerStars and Full Tilt had been working with the Swedish Poker Federation over the past few years to help promote and provide satellites for the annual live poker series.

However, 888poker will now step in to take charge of the online portion of the tournament and serve as its new home. The online section of this year’s Poker-SM will run from May 24-30 and feature 12 events, including the headline ‘$160 Main Event’ that will run for two days.

“I believe that this is exactly what the Swedish Poker Federation needs, a committed partner that wants to support the online community and grow with it,” Mauritz Altikardes, chief executive of Poker Event, the company behind the Poker-SM, said according to Cards-Chat.com.

The agreement comes at a busy time for 888poker, which also recently struck deals with Aspers Casino Stratford in the UK as well as King’s Casino in the Czech Republic. The latter of these partnerships includes the brand serving as headline sponsor of various high-profile events such as the German Championships of Poker and the Deutsche Poker Tour.

TotallyGaming.com says: “The ongoing resurgence and expansion of both the PokerStars and Full Tilt brands is placing pressure on other brands in the wider market. 888poker is really showing its strength here by ousting the operators and enhancing its presence in both Sweden and Europe.”
