Smarkets steps up mobile offering ahead of World Cup

In anticipation of the upcoming World Cup in Russia, online betting exchange Smarkets has upgraded and relaunched its proprietary mobile apps for iOS and Android systems.

Issuing an update on its corporate site, the firm’s development team mapped out how its new app updates will further enrich the experience for its users, and how the updates have come of the back off customer feedback.

Aiming to increase efficiency when it comes to the login process for users of the app, Smarkets has introduced a Quick login through Touch-ID or Face-ID feature for the app.

The group is also looking to make the in-play experience more enjoyable for users, unveiling a new ‘match centre’ for football markets, which informs the punter of timelines, key stats, match overviews and content.

In its update, the group stated: “We’ve listened to that feedback and now built an app we’re really proud of. If you were at all perturbed by last year’s release, then we’d urge you to download the latest version and see how much it has improved. While the old version retained a lot of style elements from the mobile website, the new version is built from the bottom up to be an app.”

Additionally, the overall experience of the app is likely to be improved with the latest set of updates, as it allows customers to take advantage of a newly designed app interface, featuring quick-links, market search, and simplified access to user account information.

The betting opportunities for the user have also been enhanced, with the development of ‘Trade-out’ functionality for mobile apps, allowing users to manage market positions more effectively.

A spokesperson for Smarkets told "The performance of the app has come on a lot in recent months and now there are some great features too, including Touch ID and the new in-play football match centre.

"We've seen a big uplift in downloads since we made these changes and started promoting the improved app. In fact, recently we've been trending on the Google Play Store! Obviously, it's a big month for us with the World Cup, and the new match centre especially will make trading the tournament more engaging on your device."

The updates will allow Smarkets to place a key focus on the World Cup, building on the group’s successful Grand National, when it revealed that the event broke the Smarkets record for most trading volume on a single event.
