Smarkets has launched a test period for its back-only betting product

Online betting exchange Smarkets has targeted breaking into new markets and territories after launching the beta version of its sportsbook app under the working title of SBK.

The app only platform leverages Smarkets’ existing exchange pricing, but is presented without the exchange interface that can “put some users off”.

However, to avoid it becoming just a back only version of its exchange, it will be complemented by innovative features such as the option to share bets with the community.

A spokesperson for Smarkets told “We've always believed that there's little difference between an exchange and a sportsbook, only a different interface where you can buy, sell and trade your position with more flexibility on the exchange.

“So, we're excited to bring exchange prices to the mass UK market with our sportsbook app, but also use it as a product to break into new markets and territories."

During the beta testing phase, Smarkets wants to pit the app against popular back only online sportsbooks by putting it “in the hands of non-exchange users” to gather valuable feedback ahead of a planned full launch later in the year.

The statement concluded: “For now, we're really keen to get feedback from customers who would normally bet with a bookmaker. If you are an exchange user, then there's little reason to try SBK for now as it is still in its infancy.

"Aside from the social features, it's no different to just backing your selection on the exchange and our exchange app has improved a lot in recent months. It's an excellent product."

Totally Gaming says: During this crucial beta phase, SBK will only be accessible to limited test users via an ‘invite only code’. Smarkets will subsequently gather feedback from both internal and external sources before launching it as a “class leading product” to complement its exchange offering.
