Online operators roll out Apple Watch applications

Playtech and Unibet are amongst the first online operators to have launched sports betting applications for the Apple Watch, a new wearable device from Apple that launches today (Friday).

Gaming software and services firm Playtech said its app will extend its omni-channel Coral Connect solution, which has proved successful since its launch with UK bookmaker Coral last year.

The Playtech app will allow customers to place bets, browse live and upcoming sporting events, monitor promotions and receive alerts via technology linked to the user’s iOS mobile app. Playtech also noted that its new Apple Watch app will feature full cash out functionality.

Initially launching with Coral, Playtech said it is working with a number of other licensees in an effort to launch further Apple Watch functionality.

“We are well ahead of any of our competitors on not just this development, but also the entire omni-channel offering as we have shown with Coral and as we are about to embark on with a number of other significant licensees,” Playtech chief executive officer Mor Weizer said.

“The Apple Watch is a natural extension to this and no other supplier has the technology, global expertise, resource, and support to offer such an all-encompassing solution.”

Elsewhere, online gaming operator Unibet said the first generation of its app will allow Apple Watch users to access information about football and horse racing, such as the latest scores, racecards and results.

Unibet customers will also have the option to place a bet via their mobile.

Ed Nicholson, head of Unibet’s UK marketing operations, said: “We anticipate Apple Watch users initially using their watch as an information and communication tool, weeding out the wheat from the chaff of all the communication that reaches our smartphones these days.

“So, we wanted to be sure we are providing their watch with the best information possible in order to make it through that cut off.”
