Martin Wachter: ‘Golden Race is now running in more than 30,000 shops’

Golden Race has enjoyed a period of strong growth over the past 12 months, with the virtual betting specialist launching an award-winning game and expanding into key markets around the world.

Speaking at the iGaming Super Show in Amsterdam last month, Golden Race CEO Martin Wachter said the company’s successful growth strategy resulted in a doubling of traffic in 2016.

“Golden Race is running now more than 30,000 shops and selling more than seven million tickets per day, mainly in Europe and Africa, where we are massive market leader with 80% market penetration,” Wachter said.

“The last months have been so exciting for us. A lot of things happened, including our expansion into new markets, new games and new technology. We released our Real Fighting game at the end of 2016, which everybody saw at the ICE show in London.

“Following the launch, we immediately received an SBC Award in the category of ‘Best New Virtual Sports Product’ in 2016. The game is working very well.”

While the majority of Golden Race’s business is in retail betting shops, the company continues to grow its presence in across online and mobile sector. After launching its first mobile application in Kenya and Nigeria last year, this is now being rolled out into other territories.

“We started selling 2,000 tickets per month, but are now selling more than two million tickets per day,” said Wachter. “The technology works on Windows and iOS mobile devices, along with the Opera Mini browser, which is very important in Africa.

“We are thinking about launching a new mobile application which gives you all the possibilities with all our games – not just selected games – and we are also working hard towards creating on-demand solutions, where the player decides when he wants to play his game.”

Looking ahead, Wachter said the next 12 months will be very important period for Golden Race, as the company enters new markets, such as North America.

“Since we showcased our MMA fighters at ICE 2015, everybody is asking what Golden Race will do next,” he said. “I can tell you come to ICE Totally Gaming in 2018. Something is going to happen that you will not forget.”

Totally Gaming says: According to Wachter, Golden Race’s aim was to become an established player in the land-based market before moving online. With its solution now running more than 30,000 shops, the group is already leveraging opportunities in mobile, and it will be interesting to see what the next 12 months brings for both the company and virtual betting fans around the world.
