Emojiplanet adds more innovation to NetEnt’s extensive games portfolio

Pushing ahead with its ‘mobile-first’ strategy, digital gaming giant NetEnt has rolled out a new slot that puts emojis at the heart of the action.

The five-reel, six-row Emojiplanet video slot utilises NetEnt’s Cluster Play mechanics, complete with well-known emoji symbols and characters.

The game includes five Emoji Features, with the Bomb, Pizza, Kiss Mark, Rocket and Heart emojis all up for grabs as they cascade from the sky.

Emojiplanet follows in the footsteps of The Emoji Movie, which was launched last month. The slot game was developed in partnership with The Emoji Company and Global Merchandising Services.

“The emoji has become a worldwide phenomenon, so we’re pleased to be able to give players the chance to enter their world,” said Simon Hammon, chief product officer of NetEnt.

“The Emojiplanet was made to bring fun and laughter to the gaming experience and we’re confident our players will love this unique encounter and everything it offers.”

The launch of Emojiplanet comes as NetEnt continues to reap the rewards of its ‘mobile-first’ strategy.

Discussing the importance of the group’s mobile development programme last month, group CEO Per Eriksson told “NetEnt was one of the pioneers in the mobile casino space. Since we started our mobile development, we have been driving the mobile casino industry forward through a large number of inventions that the industry is following.”

Totally Gaming says: With the mobile sector now accounting for more than half of NetEnt’s revenues, the adoption of emojis as the central theme in its latest slot was a natural choice. The quirky ideograms have been named the fastest growing ‘language’ in the world, and with The Emoji Movie hitting cinemas just last month, the launch of Emojiplanet comes at the perfect time.
