Crispin Nieborer, managing director of William Hill Online, has revealed that the division is to make a number of changes to its senior management team as part of an effort to improve performance.

Last month, the bookmaker said that its online arm had suffered a ‘tough’ period in the first 17 weeks of 2016, with online gaming revenue failing by four per cent year-on-year and sportsbook down 17 per cent.

Earlier this week, it was reported that William Hill had appointed advisory firm KPMG to conduct a strategic review of its digital business, and the bookmaker has now taken further steps to strengthen its online arm.

Special projects director Steven Reid is to become chief operating officer for online in the interim, while Juergen Reutte will take on the new role of chief experience officer.

Elsewhere, commercial and business development director Matthew Gerard will extend his responsibilities to business intelligence and payments, risk and fraud operations, with Imri Meir, who had been heading up the latter, to exit the firm. In addition, chief financial officer James Davies will now assume responsibility for compliance and procurement.

“These changes are focused on driving the turnaround of Online's performance by ensuring we have the right team and structure in place, to keep improving our product and our customer's experience, broadening our appeal, and growing internationally,” Nieborer said.

"There is more work to do, but we are making significant progress on our mobile product, driving up our customer experience ratings, and delivering incremental gains every week.”

TotallyGaming.com says: “William Hill is leaving no stone unturned as it seeks to make improvements to its struggling online business, and it will be interesting to see the impact these changes will have on the division’s performance over the rest of the year.”
