First to market: 888 games now available on Google Play

On August 2, Google silently changed its policy to allow, for the first-time, gambling operators to present their real-money games on the Google Play app store.

The decision to change the policy allows gambling-related apps to be downloaded in the UK and other licensed European markets through the Google Play store.

To date, Google has restricted gambling mobile app downloads, with users having to individually install applications without the aid of Google Play functionalities.

Leading online operator 888 Holdings has become one of the first to offer its services on Google Play, with the group’s 888casino, 777, 888poker, 888sport, Wink Slots and Wink Bingo brands now available on the platform.

The news marks the latest in a string of industry-firsts for the operator. In June, the company announced the launch of the premium Elite Lounge live casino, which transports players into an opulent casino setting with the look and feel of a nightclub.

Totally Gaming says: Google’s decision to open its doors to online gambling operators is major win for the industry, as it’s now easier than ever for consumers to find and download their favourite gaming apps. 888 remains a leading global brand, and being one of the first to market its apps on the Google Play store will no doubt lead to a healthy growth in its player base.
