Phil Shaw believes the Mirror deal creates a "powerful prospect"

Fantasy iTeam is aiming high after launching a new fantasy football app with the UK's Trinity Mirror media company.

While the fantasy platform accepts that the official English Premier League game, which has more than three million players across the world, is almost unassailable as the market leader, Fantasy iTeam commercial director Phil Shaw told that the new Mirror offering can become its biggest rival.

The app is being promoted through print and digital channels in the Daily Mirror, Irish Mirror and several leading regional titles, including the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail, The Chronicle, South Wales Echo, Western Mail and Belfast Live.

“The aim is to combine our ongoing liquidity of players with their mass media coverage,” said Shaw, whose company already has almost half a million players. “Together, that is a pretty powerful proposition.

“The Mirror wanted a live mobile solution, which is something they didn’t have last season, so that’s what we’ve delivered on iPhone, iPad and Android. The UK market is certainly busy, led by the official Premier League game, however we believe position No.2 is a realistic target for us over the coming years.”

The Daily Mirror and reached an average audience of 22.92m people in a month according to NRS PADD multiplatform audience figures released in June. The new Mirror fantasy football app is free and offers games related to the Premier League and the Uefa Champions League, with real-time transfers, a live and interactive newsfeed, instant scores and squad news.

Mark O’Donnell, head of digital commercial development, Trinity Mirror Solutions, added: “We’ve been looking for a high quality mobile fantasy football product to serve our rapidly growing mobile audience and Fantasy iTeam was the obvious choice.

“They are comfortably the No.1 mobile fantasy football provider and the perfect fit for what we are trying to achieve. I’m confident our readers will love the game.”
