The results show has been broadcast on BBC for 20 years

The National Lottery results are set to return to prime-time TV, as operator Camelot has opted to end the 20 year partnership between the BBC and the National Lottery to move the show to ITV.

The move comes after the BBC opted to move the screening of the results to its digital iPlayer platform. Therefore, to make the draw ‘more relevant and visible’, Camelot will only give partial broadcasting rights to the BBC after the channel's news show, with the initial results announcement being moved to ITV.

A Camelot spokesperson told "Through this new partnership with ITV, we are giving our players a quick and enjoyable way of getting the winning Lotto numbers on Saturday nights, alongside some exciting surprises for the public.

"This is all about making The National Lottery and its purpose far more relevant and visible – and what better way to do this than by delivering the winning Lotto numbers during some of the most popular prime-time ITV shows, while highlighting the huge difference that National Lottery funding continues to make to the UK.

"From this Saturday, we’ll be getting out and about around the country with Stephen Mulhern as we bring you the Lotto winning numbers from National Lottery-funded landmarks across the UK. Viewers will also have the chance to get involved and win cash prizes, so make sure you tune in."

Expanding further on how the National Lottery plans to grow to a new audience, the spokesperson added: "Following the strategic review we carried out last summer, our plan to return The National Lottery to growth is based on four main principles: improving the range of National Lottery games; investing to enhance our retail offering; upgrading our digital capabilities; and reinvigorating The National Lottery brand.

"We've already made some great progress – for example, through the launch of a brand new game, EuroMillions HotPicks, and an extra draw day for our Thunderball game in January 2018. In addition, we've committed to a £20 million retail investment over the next three years, which includes recently doubling the size of our Retail Sales Team – from 60 to 120 – to help our retail partners make the most out of selling National Lottery products.

"Further updates will follow in the coming months – for instance, we plan to make changes to Lotto later this year to give players a better winning experience and have some other exciting plans lined up. So, watch this space."

Totally Gaming says: ITV has developed a sharp 90 second show which will be broadcast in its prime-time ad-break viewing, something that will give lottery viewers a perfect platfrom to consume the weekly results.
