Angelo Dalli said his company was benefiting from its decision to focus on the lottery sector

Bit8 is set to launch its “ground-breaking” new online lottery product at next week’s Juegos Miami event as it unveiled plans for a greater presence in the Latin America region.

Chief executive Angelo Dalli would not give too much away about Bit8’s new venture, but said it would be “an exciting development” for the platform solutions company and the lottery sector.

The addition of the new lottery product is the latest evidence that Bit8 has adjusted its focus towards this vertical having previously being associated more closely with sports betting and online casino platforms. The change has coincided with the strategic partnership it signed with Intralot at the start of last year, with the lottery giant then acquiring 35 per cent of the firm in October.

Dalli believes the combination of the two companies is a compelling prospect for potential partners in the sector.

“Bit8 has market-leading technology and now our partnership with Intralot gives us a true global reach,” said Dalli, who will discuss the potential of the Latin American lottery sector in a panel session at Juegos Miami. “We complement each other, so it is a great combination.

“We have taken a strategic decision to focus on lottery as we believe that is the area where our strengths are needed most by operators.

“It looks as though we made the correct decision as we really have accelerated in recent months, and have plans in place for the next three years. We are advancing in the lottery space and creating our omni-channel network, so there is a great deal to be excited about.”

Undoubtedly, the unveiling of the new lottery product at Juegos Miami is emblematic of how the global gaming industry has backed the new event, which is focused on the Latin America and Caribbean market and begins on Tuesday, May 31.

Juegos Miami comes at a time when Bit8, which already partners with major lotteries in Chile and Peru, is looking to expand in Latin America. With the region tipped to be one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the coming years, Dalli said it is important that the Malta-headquartered company now establishes a regional office in Latin America, which will most likely be located in Brazil.

“It’s very important for us to have a presence in Latin America,” Dalli said. “It is a fast-growing market and regulatory changes mean it will become increasingly important for the industry in the coming years.

“We feel we can best develop our relationships with operators and other key stakeholders in the industry if have bases in the region. At the moment the main attraction is land-based gaming as that is where the power lies in Latin America. We see payments as one area where our service can be of particular use to operators in the region.

"If we can establish our credibility then, with our omni-channel capabilities, we will be well positioned when online begins to grow.

“Of course, we are also looking at other areas, and we have plans to open an office in Australasia, most likely in Australia itself.”

As for Juegos Miami itself, Dalli said it will give any companies looking to grow in the region an opportunity to build their network.

“Operators in Latin America like to build personal relationships, so it is very important for us and other companies who want to expand in this region,” he said.
