International Game Technology (IGT) has continued its strategic positioning within the United States’ sports betting scene, following a fresh agreement with William Hill US.

The new commercial partnership has been chosen by the Rhode Island Lottery, as the party’s unite to be the end-to-end sports betting service provider, at the state's licensed video lottery and table game establishments.

Sports betting operations at the states Twin River Casino and Tiverton Casino are expected to go live during November of this year, with the contract stipulating that a complete end-to-end sports betting service will be provided to the Rhode Island Lottery.

This is set to utilise IGT's sports betting platform, with William Hill providing its best-in-class sports betting operation and risk management.

Renato Ascoli, IGT CEO of North America, commented: "We are pleased that Rhode Island is the first lottery to set up sports betting operations post-PASPA.

"IGT is a leading and proven supplier of sports betting technology in the US. The combination with William Hill, a leading sports betting operator in the US uniquely positions us to provide the Rhode Island Lottery with a comprehensive, market-ready solution to maximise sports betting revenues and returns to good causes for the state of Rhode Island."

In its media release, IGT details that the initial term of the contract is of five years from the date the first sports wager is placed at either venue, and could be extended by a mutual consent for two successive five year terms.

"It's an exciting time for the Rhode Island Lottery," said Gerald Aubin, Rhode Island Lottery director. "With the introduction of legalised sports betting, we will leverage world-class resources and technology from IGT and William Hill, to provide the best-possible sports betting experience for the patrons who visit our casinos."

Joe Asher, CEO of William Hill, added: "IGT is a world-class gaming technology company and we could not be more happy to partner with them, to provide a world-class sports betting solution for the state of Rhode Island.”

Totally Gaming says: It seems hardly a day passes without fresh movements in the US’ states regarding sports betting, with IGT hailing this latest set of partnerships with both William Hill and the Rhode Island Lottery. This is hot off the heels of the firm gaining licence approval in West Virginia, with early predictions valuing sports betting at $5.5m during its first year of operations.
