Aleš Gornjec said that previous investments paid off during a successful 2015

Comtrade Gaming last week became an associate member of the World Lottery Association (WLA), in a move that establishes the gaming software provider’s growing reputation in the lottery sector. Here, Comtrade’s general manager, Aleš Gornjec, tells how membership will benefit the company and what it hopes to achieve in the coming year… Could you tell us how important WLA membership is for Comtrade?

Aleš Gornjec: Becoming a member of the WLA is a great honour for us. I’m very happy for the recommendation from our clients to the WLA Executive Committee, and their acceptance.

The digital transformation of the lotteries business that is taking place in various countries around the world requires open platforms that unify management and control of all content and data across all distribution channels. Comtrade Gaming is committed to helping the gaming industry modernise their technology ecosystem, and the WLA endorsement strengthens our mission.

TG: What benefits will WLA membership bring?

AG: At Comtrade we believe that joining the WLA will further introduce us to the lottery market. At present, we are a leading independent software provider to the gaming industry, and we believe that we can transfer our knowledge and adapt our products to the lottery market as well.

sCore, our gaming management product family that is built around a standard G2S protocol, has been optimised and extended with multi-protocol support to connect distributed environments running on mobile networks like GPRS.

Together with the Responsible Gaming Solution, sCore provides adjustable limits, a central self-exclusion database, and a central collection of all player activities. More and more, bingo and lotteries operators seek to achieve the convergence between land-based and online, and are looking for a product that provides player protection across all channels. This is exactly what our iCore Enterprise Gaming Platform can do, which is why we are so sure we are a great fit in the lottery market.

TG: What have been the highlights at Comtrade during 2015?

AG: 2015 has been one of the most successful years in the 15-year history of Comtrade. The investments we made in 2014 ensured we have been very busy through the whole year, but we still managed to innovate and we closed some very important deals.

We are especially happy that one of the largest Asian operators chose our Enterprise Gaming Platform – iCore for their back-end solution. This has additionally expanded our strong presence in the Asian market.

On the game side, the lion’s share of the new development was invested into mobile game development kit (gCore GDK), that now supports a wider set of devices and features and can be used for development of new games that run both on mobile devices and on desktops. gCore GDK was also extended with WebGL support, which enables the implementation of 3D games on mobile phones.

On the land-based side, we have been following the changing regulations and are, with our sCore, prepared to help operators to adapt to the new rules.

TG: What are Comtrade's hopes for the coming year?

AG: We hope 2016 will be as successful as this one. We have quite a few releases coming out. In January we expect the launch of the iCore 2.0, the latest version of our gaming platform. We have further extended the real time bonusing functionality and, in parallel, worked really hard to ensure that the platform will be suitable for the most traffic-intensive sites. The new version will feature the gamification of actual player bonuses with our new Award Games suite.

On the land-based side, we intend to enter new markets with our sCore, as remote machine management and regulation are becoming very important.
