$6.2m - The amount of prize money that was up for grabs in this year’s Melbourne Cup, which was won by Joseph O’Brien trained Rekindling, it meant that the son of famed trainer Aidan O’Brien became the youngest trainer to ever win the Melbourne Cup at the age of 24. Rekindling earned the victory by finishing ahead of fellow Irish horses, Johannes Vermeer and Max Dynamite who came in second and third respectively.

2.6 million - The amount Sky Betting and Gaming revealed it had expanded its customer base to in its 2016/17 corporate accounts, in what it described as a ‘landmark year.’ Furthermore, the Leeds based operator pointed towards these results as evidence that it is the fastest growing online gambling firm.  

750,000 - The amount of followers that are boasted by popular football analysis site, Squawka. It was revealed this week that the site is fighting to stay in business as it has found itself financial hot water. Via Twitter, the site’s co-founder Leo Harrison has expressed that he is still hopeful that they could find a solution.

£3,000 - The fine given to British Horse Racing trainer David Evans after the trainer attempted to ‘nick a bit of extra value’ by delaying the declaration of Tango Sky as a non-runner in order to ensure that he got better value when he placed a £6,000 bet on Black Dave to win the same race. Evans described his fine, which was reduced from £4,000 because of his continual honesty throughout the process, as ‘very lenient.’

6 - The amount years that Carl Leaver was a decision maker at Coral before he stepped down this week, John Kelly, Chairman of Ladbrokes Coral stated: “Over a period of 6 years, Carl led a major turnaround of the Gala Coral Group, culminating in the deal to merge with Ladbrokes to create Ladbrokes Coral Group plc.”
