Breaking down all the week's news into a set of easy to manage figures.

HK$1.938 million - The turnover from the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s full card last Sunday, the highest ever recorded for an 11-race card. The total turnover for the season, £11.9 billion, is almost three times the amount bet on racing in the UK, where last season’s figure came in at £4.3 billion (HK$44.8 billion).

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, commented: “We are delighted with another record season, one of our most exciting seasons both on and off the track.”

243 - The number of homes that the Manchester Evening News has reported could be built on the city’s Belle Vue greyhound track. Having first been built in 1926, the infrastructure is synonymous with the Belle Vue area and is one of the country’s oldest and most well regarded greyhound stadiums.

A spokesman for Countryside Properties was quoted in the MEN’s coverage: “Countryside are currently preparing proposals for the development of circa. 240 new family homes at the Belle Vue Stadium site at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Last month Mark Bird the MD of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), sent an open letter to Paul Darling, Chairman of the Association of British Bookmakers (ABB) and Clive Hawkswood, leader of the Remote Gambling Association (RGA), urging the industry figureheads to support further funding measures for sustaining UK greyhound racing.

£1 - The starting stake for social pools betting network i-pools’ new Daily Fantasty Racing game. The introduction of Fantasy Racing pools offers punters an alternative to fixed-odds markets and totaliser betting, and does so in a social context, with players betting against each other rather than the house. It comes as a replacement to the tote, which has reached expiration.

Tristan McDonald, Founder of i-pools, said: “We’ve patiently waited for the end of the Tote monopoly to launch a key element of our product range: daily fantasy racing, which offers racing fans a fun and skill-based alternative to fixed odds sportsbook.

“Our objective, as a business, is to put the fun back into betting and to create a genuinely player friendly environment to have a flutter on all major sporting events.”

30 July - The start date of the Galway Races Summer Festival, with British bookmaker Betway agreeing a three-year sponsorship deal for the week-long event.

The online bookmaker will sponsor the first three races on the sixth day of the prestigious meeting, known as Super Saturday, in what will be the firm’s first horse racing sponsorship in Ireland. The three races that open Saturday’s card will now be named Betway Irish EBF Maiden, Betway Maiden and Betway Irish E.B.F. Nursery Handicap.

Betway’s Anthony Werkman, said: “The Galway Races Summer Festival is a fantastic occasion and we’re thrilled to be a part of it. This is our first sponsorship in Irish racing and we’re really pleased to be able to kick it off at Galway, where the week-long Festival is an event not to be missed.

€110 million - The amount paid by Italian giants Juventus to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid. Despite the fact the talismanic Portuguese forward is now 33 years-old, it would be difficult to argue against it being anything other than a great deal for the Old Lady.

CR7 is not only considered a coup for Juventus, but for the whole of Serie A, a league which was once the powerhouse of European football but has has witnessed decline in the wake of multiple corruption scandals.
