Number Crunching – Gambling related harm, DFS updates and a Christmas Calendar

A breakdown of some of the more interesting figures to emerge from the gambling industry in the past seven days

250,000 - The number of people in the UK suffering from gambling-related harm. GambleAware has reinforced its commitment to helping these people by funding research, education and treatment services. The charity, formerly known as the Responsible Gambling Trust, has revealed plans to increase its research budget by 50% to an annual £1.5 million by 2018.

50/50 - The proposed merger between FanDuel and DraftKings is set to be an equal partnership, with each of the operators’ core investors receiving three board seats. Former ‘Fortune’ finance editor Dan Primack has suggested that the combined enterprise will be led by DraftKings’ CEO Jason Robins, with FanDuel founder Nigel Eccles promoted to Chairman.

$17 billion - The amount that industry analysts believe Brazil could gain each year from having a regulated gambling framework. Having approved final amendments to Bill 186, Brazil's Senate will finally vote on the introduction of this new framework on December 7.

£200,000 - The figure that Aberdeen based DFS site Premier Punt is hoping to raise in funding for further product development. The company soft launched its new app in August 2016, and has seen paying users increase significantly on last season.

20 - FTSE enterprises named Paddy Power Betfair in its top-20 companies for having a high proportion of females at senior management level. This was part of the Hampton-Alexander review, ‘FTSE Women Leaders Report,’ which was led by Sir Philip Hampton and Dame Helen Alexander, and focused on improving gender balance in the UK.

€200,000 - The value of the Christmas Calendar campaign created by Yggdrasil Gaming to boost engagement over the festive season, and showcase the power of its in-game promotional tools BOOST and BRAG. On each day in December, the provider will run campaigns which cover popular slots such as Vikings Go Wild, Golden Fish Tank and Holmes and the Stolen Stones.
