Webinar forum: Spectrum’s SIGHT theory pulled into focus

The consultancy recently marked 15 years since the publication of SIGHT

July 27 saw Spectrum Gaming Group and Clarion Gaming host a dedicated webinar for lawmakers, regulators and gaming operators to explore the ongoing debate surrounding land-based and online gaming.

The webinar focused on the experience to date of online gaming in the US, as well as its co-ordination with a $70 billion land-based industry.

It came as Spectrum Gaming marked 15 years since the publication of its Spectrum Internet Gaming Heuristic Theorem (SIGHT), which predicted ongoing convergence between the land-based gaming and online sectors.

Last month, the consultancy published a new white paper that serves to elaborate, update and expand the theory of online and land-based gaming in 2017.

Speaking at the webinar, Michael Pollock, managing director of Spectrum Gaming Group, said “There are two immutable laws of human nature that are relevant here: people are hardwired to enjoy games of chance and social settings.

“With that in mind, the gaming industry in the US is clearly unique an industry with more than 1,000 casinos, cannot simply rely on an approach that has worked elsewhere, it needs a unique approach.

He added: “Take the broadest possible perspective and consider the interactions between online and landbased, a multichannel approach would include adding in sales tax, employment tax other streams that will grow due to the capturing of new players and incremental visits.”

Pollock also revealed that, according to his findings, lotteries will continue to be moved online. “Not only will just draw games be online, but instant lottery games online are going to be indistinguishable from online slots machine,” he stated.

Another key topic of conversation at the webinar was the concerns that were raised about the increased level of gaming, Jeff Ifrah, founding member of Ifrah Law, said: “These concerns that were out there were not observed, were unsubstantiated or were proven to be outright erroneous.”
