Playtech has hired UKGC digital compliance lead Richard Bayliss

Playtech has announced the appointment of Richard Bayliss, former Senior Online Manager at the UK Gambling Commission, as Regulatory Compliance Manager.

In his new role, Bayliss will play a key part in leading the direction of Playtech’s responsible gambling initiatives.

Ian Ince, Group Head of Regulatory Affairs at Playtech, said: “Everyone at Playtech is delighted to welcome Richard. With a wealth of experience with UKGC, his insight will be a major bonus as we strive to stay at the forefront of regulatory compliance developments. I’m certain he will be an invaluable addition to the team.

“A commitment to promoting responsible gambling and fostering a safe and entertaining environment for players is central to everything we do at Playtech. Richard’s appointment and his enthusiasm for joining Playtech demonstrate the strength of that commitment, and is a key part of our ongoing investment in exceeding regulatory expectations.”

During his 11 years with the UK Gambling Commission, Bayliss played a central role in monitoring technological and product innovation within the gambling industry and assessing its potential impact on the British regulatory system.

Bayliss added: “After more than a decade assessing the regulatory impact of technological developments in the industry, I’m looking forward to seeing some of these developments first-hand in my new role. Playtech has long had a reputation as a major innovator in online gambling, and I’m very excited to be joining the team.”

Looking ahead, a spokesperson for Playtech, told TotallyGaming.com: "We continue to invest substantial time, effort and resources into increasing our responsible gambling capabilities and you have seen this lately with the acquisition of BetBuddy and now also Richard’s appointment.”

Playtech also followed up this appointment by agreeing a long-term deal to supply its Neon casino management system to manage Olympic Entertainment Group’s (OEG) international land-based casino operations.

The solution will connect more than 100 casinos in five countries, covering approximately 3,500 electronic gaming machines and more than 150 gaming tables.

Totally Gaming says: It’s clear that Playtech is placing a concentrated focus on responsible gambling, something that has to be seen as a shrewd ethical move in the current climate. The experience that Bayliss can bring to the role is something that can inevitably help the company to efficiently utilise its resources.
