Integrated gaming company Novomatic has moved to bolster its presence in the US market by appointing Bally Technologies’ Rick Meitzler as its new vice-president of North American sales.

Meitzler is an industry veteran having spent 36 years working in the gaming sector. Known to many throughout the industry, he has also made a name for himself in the US market having spent the last three years serving a Bally’s director sales in the Midwest USA.

In his new role, which he will take on at the Novomatic Americas regional subsidiary, Meitzler will help drive Novomatic sales in the US market, with the firm having identified the country as a key region in which it can expand.

Meitzler’s exit from Bally comes after a long association with the company, which was bought by Scientific Games earlier this week. In addition to recently helping oversee sales in the US, he spent the first 30 years of his industry career in various engineering and sales roles at the firm.

Meitzler also helped Ainsworth Game Technologies expand into the North American market as senior vice-president of North American operations.

“Novomatic Americas’ complete line of gaming products, such as the new Dominator cabinet shown at G2E in Las Vegas, together with the brand’s success stories from all across the globe, now makes us ready to make a huge impact in North American markets,” Meitzler said.

“I look forward to taking these groundbreaking products to market very soon and I already know that US operators are more than keen to see and try them. I regard it as a great honour for me to be asked to play a significant part in what I am certain will be major success story across America.”

Meitzler’s appointment will provide a welcome boost for Novomatic, which is headquartered in Austria and earlier this week confirmed that Jens Halle is to step down from his joint position as managing director, Austrian Gaming Industries, and chief executive of Novomatic Americas Sales.

Halle, who will exit the role by mutual agreement, will depart the company by the end of the year.

Speaking about his departure, Halle said: “15 years ago I was honoured by the invitation of president and majority shareholder Professor Johann F. Graf to join the iconic Novomatic Group as head of sales. Later, I was appointed managing director of Austrian Gaming Industries and, assisted by a loyal team of true gaming professionals, was able to see Novomatic achieve notable success not just in Europe but around the world.

“However, although I now feel the need for new challenges and new directions, I will always be grateful for the experience of working together with colleagues and friends and for the satisfaction that I gained from being within one of the gaming industry’s true leaders.”

Despite confirming his exit, Halle expressed confidence over Meitzler’s ability to continue to drive Novomatic forward in the US market.

“We are all absolutely delighted to welcome Rick Meitzler to this crucial position,” Halle said. “I have known him, as both a former colleague and a personal friend, for many years and I am extremely happy that he has agreed to take up this key appointment.

“Rick is extremely well respected throughout the industry and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Novomatic as we now more aggressively pursue key North American markets.”
