The challenge of bringing esports and casinos together

Las Vegas casinos are understandably keen to explore the esports phenomenon

At the upcoming G2E in Las Vegas, one panel sure to generate extensive interest is the one on the potential relationship between land based casinos and esports.

Speaking on the panel is Unikrn’s Rahul Sood, Narus Advisors’ Chris Grove, Blaine Graboyes of GameCo, Seth Schorr of Fifth Street Gaming and A.G. Burnett, Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Titled ‘Esports and Casinos: The Coming Collision” and will analyse the various demographics of players and spectators throughout esports, discuss skin betting and assess regulatory challenges too.

A sizable undertaking for a single panel then, but it’s one with notable industry experts sitting on it.

Chris Grove told about both the conference and the discussion: "The focus of our panel at G2E is to identify the ways that casinos are already embracing and integrating esports, whether as entertainment or as an extension of the casino floor. I think we're seeing that conversation approach a tipping point, and I wouldn't be surprised if you start hearing about major Las Vegas Strip properties placing big bets on esports in the year ahead.

"With Las Vegas on the path to taking the first legal sports bet on an esports match in the U.S., the recent announcement of an esports-only arena for Vegas, and the opening of the groundbreaking esports lounge within the Downtown Grand casino, the pieces are starting to come together for Las Vegas to evolve into a genuine esports destination."

Grove is one of the organisers of a separate two day conference focused purely on casinos and esports in October (25-26) in Las Vegas at the SLS. There are a host of respected figures from esports and the world of gambling speaking on a variety of different panels analysing this topic in full.

Totally Gaming says: As land based casinos look for a way to attract a younger demographic, esports looks set to be one of the main routes by which to achieve this end. The various communities and pitfalls within esports however makes this risky business unless you know what you’re doing. Conferences such as these will serve to inform and educate casino and gambling industry professionals, and will be far from the last conference panel on this new relationship.
