Operator named first casino partner of NFL, and strikes deal to launch sports betting with tribal partner

Caesars Entertainment has struck a deal with tribal gaming operator the Oneida Indian Nation to launch sports betting in New York State, as well as being named the National Football League’s (NFL) first-ever casino sponsor.

The NFL partnership, which kicks off from the upcoming 2019 playoffs, will see the casino giant gain exclusive rights to the league’s trademarks in the US and UK to promote its properties and services, including the Super Bowl and NFL Draft.

It further strengthens Caesars’ ties with American football, already working with the Falcons, Ravens, Bears, Colts, Saints, Raiders and Eagles franchises. All partnerships are focused on casino, and have no links to Caesars’ sports betting or daily fantasy sports assets.

"We couldn't be more excited to work with one of the world's largest gaming and entertainment companies," said NFL senior vice president of partnerships, sponsorship and consumer products Renie Anderson.

"Combining the NFL with Caesars' expertise in world class entertainment will provide our fans unique experiences both here in the United States and abroad.”

Caesars president and chief executive Mark Frissora said he was thrilled for the operator to become the NFL’s first-ever casino partner.

"Combining the league's 180m fans with our 55m Total Rewards loyalty program members will expose millions of people to the exclusive and exciting year-round opportunities at our properties,” he explained.

The partnership with the Oneida Indian Nation, meanwhile, will see Caesars launch retail sportsbooks at the tribe’s Turning Stone Resort Casino, Yellow Brick Road Casino and Point Place Casino venues in New York.

It is dependent on sports betting regulations being passed in the state, with a number of bills expected to be introduced in the upcoming legislative session. The partnership must also be ratified by the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC).

“We are eagerly awaiting the NIGC’s review of this innovative new partnership involving a licensing and branding arrangement,” said Christian Stuart, Caesars’ executive vice president gaming and interactive entertainment.

“The Oneida Indian Nation has already established Turning Stone as the preeminent New York gaming destination, which makes the property and its sister casinos fitting partners for Caesars.”

Oneida Indian Nation representative, and chief executive of its Nation Enterprises subsidiary, Ray Halbritter said he was pleased to have partnered with a “world-renowned gaming leader”.

“Like Oneida Nation Enterprises, Caesars has built its business on exceptional service, as well as a dedication to constant innovation,” Halbritter said. “These shared values create the perfect synergy for a meaningful long-term partnership.”
