Fred Chesnais, the chief executive of Atari, has told that the video game producer opted to launch its own social gaming platform after identifying a “big opportunity” for growth in the expanding sector.

Atari Jackpots is a new online, multi-player platform that offers a full suite of virtual currency social casino games and social environments based on a variety of Atari’s most popular titles. Classic games such as ‘Asteroids’, ‘Centipede’ and ‘Missile Command’ will all feature on the new platform, with additional titles and elements to be added in due course.

Players can access a range of branded slots as well as a selection of single- and multi-player games such as bingo, video poker, blackjack and solitaire.

As part of the launch, Atari has selected social casino development firm FlowPlay as its development partner.

“We launched Atari Jackpots because we saw a big opportunity to extend our iconic video game brands into the rapidly growing social casino space,” Chesnais told

“People can now play the casino games they love branded with the games they grew up playing. There will also be many social functions available including chat rooms – a place where people with the same interests can visit to connect and play with others.

“We see a tremendous amount of potential in the social gaming market. Millions of people are playing casino style games through a virtual world environment.

“Atari Jackpots is Atari’s first step into the online casino space and we will engage with our community to learn what types of games they like the best and will release additional games in the coming months.”

In addition to the new platform, Atari is working with PariPlay to create Atari Casino, a real-money gaming product that is currently in development and set for release before the end of the year.

“This is a worldwide, long-term strategic partnership with Pariplay, an imaging and lottery developer, to launch Atari’s video game brands across real money gambling formats,” said Chesnais, who was a speaker at EiG 2014 in Berlin last week.

“More details on the real money gaming launch will be coming soon.”
