Former Tropicana CEO joins to replace Michael Silberling

Nevada-based casino operator Affinity Gaming has poached Tony Rodio from Tropicana Entertainment to serve as its new chief executive, effective immediately.

Rodio leaves Tropicana, having served as its president, chief executive and director since 2011.

During his time with the company he oversaw a period of strong growth, with Tropicana’s net revenue growing by more than 50% throughout his tenure, driven by operational improvements and expansion into regional markets.

Rodio also oversaw major capital projects, including the $200m renovation of Tropicana Atlantic City. Before joining Tropicana he served in a range of roles for Hollywood Casino and Harrah’s.

He replaces Michael Silberling as Affinity CEO. Earlier this month Silberling was named senior vice president and chief operating officer of tribal gaming operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment.

"We are committed to Affinity Gaming becoming a leader in the local casino market and Tony's career accomplishments make him uniquely qualified to lead the company in its next phase of growth and development," said James Zenni, chairman of Affinity's board of directors and CEO of its private equity parent company Z Capital Partners.

"Tony is one of the top executives in the gaming industry and I'm confident that he is the right person to drive Affinity's continued growth and enhanced commitment to the player experience,” Zenni said. “I look forward to working closely with him in this new role.”

Rodio added: ”It is an honor to join the Affinity team and I am pleased to have the opportunity to work alongside Z Capital, an experienced and proven investor in the gaming industry.

"I look forward to leading Affinity in its next phase of growth and I am excited to partner with our management team and general managers to enhance the experience for our valued customers."
