The UK bingo operators have been taking part in extensive fundraising work

Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo clubs across South East England have helped raise over £24,000 at a charity football fundraiser.

Team members from 13 South East Mecca Bingo clubs took to the pitch to help raise funds for Carers Trust to help support the seven million carers in the UK.

Having been charity partners since February 2014, Mecca Bingo recently celebrated its fundraising milestone of £1.5 million by undertaking various charity initiatives and fundraising activities.

Gala Bingo also polished off its football boots to raise money for their chosen charity partner, Variety. The charity provides practical, tangible help that makes an immediate difference to children and families who have to cope with sickness, disability or disadvantage.

Supporters turned out to cheer on the teams, and thanks to additional donations in the collection buckets a total of over £24,000 was raised for the chosen charities.

Mark Brenton, area manager for the South East at Mecca Bingo, said: “We’re thrilled with the amount we’ve raised for Carers Trust, we really appreciate the work that carers do and we love to get involved in as many different fundraising activities as we can.

“The money raised will help Carers Trust to support thousands of unpaid carers through a grants fund, to give carers the equipment and skills they need to carry out their caring roles, whilst also ensuring that their own health and wellbeing are looked after.”

Bradley Wise, general manager at Gala’s Chatham club and one of the event organisers, added: “Gala Bingo is proud to be associated with Variety, the Children’s Charity – the charity of choice for the Bingo Association.

“Our customers and staff are always supportive of their local community, we are delighted to have raised such a fantastic sum of money for this worthy cause. As an industry we hope to achieve our target to raise £1m by the end of 2018.”

Discussing the operators’ ongoing charity initiatives in 2017, a Mecca Bingo spokesperson told “Clubs across the UK are all doing a number of additional fundraising activities throughout the year, from static bike cycles, to head shaves. We also had one team member recently take on the Pennine Way challenge and another group take on the UK's first four person zipline.”

Totally Gaming says: The charity work that has been completed by Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo is commendable. Although the goal of raising £1 million by the end of 2018 is ambitious, if the hardworking people at the center of the bingo groups continue to replicate the ingenuity they’ve previously shown, their target is most certainly reachable.
