The new licence open's up Danske Spil's bingo suite outside of Denmark

Danske Spil, the Danish national lottery, looks set to benefit from bigger bingo jackpots and increased player liquidity, with a change in licence conditions now permitting players from outside Denmark to access the firm’s gaming suite.

The new licence, awarded by Spillemyndigheden, the Danish Gambling Authority, is the culmination of years of negotiation, and now means Danske Spil has completed its move to the Microgaming Bingo Network.

In 2013, Danske Spil signed a landmark contract with Prima Networks Limited, powered by Microgaming, in conjunction with Betware. The deal saw Betware deliver Microgaming’s comprehensive suite of bingo and instant predetermined games to Danske Spil.

Søren Schneider, Head of Product at Danske Licens Spil, told TotallyGaming.com: “Danske Spil have offered online bingo since 2006. When the market liberalized 1st of January 2012 it became part of the monopoly business. Now as 1st of January 2018 bingo have moved into the liberalized part and we have already seen the first competitors launching with a bingo product.

“I believe the total bingo market will grow in the next coming years primarily because the synergies between casino and bingo can be fully utilized and because you are now able to offer network games, bonus, free tickets and other incentives that we could not do before the market opened up.

“I also believe that we will remain a strong market leader on bingo as we do have the best local experience and knowledge in the Danish market and have the advantage of running a profitable bingo for many years. Microgaming was a preferred supplier for us as we know the product and we believe we have a strong product from day 1. Now we have just moved to the Microgaming Bingo Network and are able to utilize a lot of existing features and functionalities that we could not do before the market got liberalized.

“In future we might extend our bingo portfolio as we need to ensure growth and remain a strong market leader but for now our focus is to continue developing the bingo product in close collaboration with Microgaming.

Totally Gaming says: This latest development signifies a move in the right direction for Denmark’s Danske Spil, with the firm now equipped with a sizeable bingo offering. Time will tell if the Danish population, and other users of Danske Spil’s online suite, will take to the new additions.
