Per Widerstrom has pledged to develop Fortuna Entertainment Group's multi-channel strategy after being named as the betting operator's new chief executive and chairman of the management board.

Widerstrom, who is currently the managing director of betting and gaming group Gala Interactive, will join Fortuna in the fourth quarter of 2014.

No official start date has been confirmed, but Radim Haluza, who will be succeeded by Widerstrom, will remain with the company until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.

"The Fortuna Entertainment Group is very well positioned to become the undisputed leader in the regulated Central European sports betting and gaming sector with the most trusted and exciting multi-channel betting and gaming brand," Widerstrom said.

"I am delighted to have got the opportunity to lead the Fortuna organisation in these exciting times."

Widerstrom has a track record that includes spells in senior executive positions at Expekt.com, Bwin.party and PartyGaming.

A graduate of the London School of Economics and Gothenburg School of Economics in the fields of finance, business administration and international accounting, Widerstrom has managed numerous projects in the countries such as Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

Fortuna operates extensively in online betting, but has also strengthened its lottery interests recently by acquiring the Intralot Czech subsidiary of gaming and lottery operator Intralot. Fortuna struck the deal through its subsidiary Fortuna Game, a provider of fixed-odds betting in the Czech Republic.

Haluza added: "Fortuna is in a very good financial shape and is enjoying a high level of trust and credibility of the investors. I have enjoyed three successful and exciting years in Fortuna and wishing the company and the new management team all the best."
