Spanish regulator La Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego has revealed that revenue generated by the country’s regulated online gaming market increased by 10 per cent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2014. The organisation noted strong growth in casino and sports betting, but saw declines in both the online poker and bingo sectors...

Elsewhere, Betsson has posted impressive year-on-year growth for the 12 months through to December 31, 2014. Revenue was up 23 per cent to SEK 3bn (€319.5m/$362.7m) while operating income amounted to SEK601.1m. Betsson also noted it achieved revenue of SEK814.7m in the fourth quarter of the year – a new record for the company...

Meanwhile, Mr Green has vowed to continue contesting a tax ruling in Austria despite having made a provision of SEK108m (€11.3m/$12.9m) in its 2014 accounts due to the dispute. Austrian legislation requires online casino operators to be taxed at 40 per cent on sales in the country, regardless of whether they hold an Austrian licence or where operations are conducted. Malta-based Mr Green Ltd, the entity affected by the dispute, will discuss a partial payment plan with Austrian authorities, but will also continue to contest the ruling...

After weeks of speculation, UK newspaper the Guardian has finally confirmed that it has ended its association with the GoWager online sports betting service from FSB Technology. The publication first linked up with GoWager in February of last year, but has now opted to close the partnership due to concerns from readers over the newspaper’s affiliation with the gambling sector. Such complaints coincided with a review by the newspaper’s commercial colleagues into the possibility of extending the service to other sports sections.
