The FA Cup fifth round match will be shown live on BBC One

Sun Bets has jumped at the chance to “get involved at an attractive price” by sponsoring National League South side Sutton United for their FA Cup fifth round tie against Arsenal.

Sun Bets, a new UK bookmaker powered by Australian gambling giant Tabcorp, has agreed a one-time shirt sponsorship for the match which will be shown live on BBC 1 on 20 February.

The company, which has first refusal on shirt sponsorship packages should Sutton progress, will also get a ticket allocation, full access to the players, on-site activation and stadium branding around Gander Green Lane for the remainder of this season and the whole of next season.

Tim Reynolds, Head of PR at Sun Bets, told “The FA Cup is all about the 'David vs Goliath' story, so when the draw for the fifth round took place everybody at Sun Bets was keeping a close eye on it. We had already earmarked Sutton United as a potential club to approach/work with so when they drew Arsenal, the phones were already ringing!

“Football sponsorship at the highest level is an expensive proposal so this has allowed us to get involved at an attractive price. The deal has worked out well for us in terms of exposure and everybody at Sutton United has been very welcoming and great to work with.”

On their access to players ahead of the match, Reynolds added: “Sutton have given us as much as we have wanted. We took Ian Wright to the ground on Monday to take charge of a training and then we had 1-to-1 interviews with the players. On the night, we'll have access to the players until one hour before kick-off and then full access to them afterwards should they manage to pull off the impossible.”

Totally Gaming says: Three weeks ago, non-league Sutton United shocked English football by knocking out Leeds United in the fourth round of the FA Cup, which created a huge opportunity for one-off shirt sponsorship. Sun Bets has acknowledged that the approach to Sutton was “opportunist”, but they are delighted with the exposure they will get around Monday’s match. There is another bonus for Sun Bets with the stadium branding package, in that if Sutton managed to avoid relegation this year they will have three matches on BT Sport next season.
