Managing Director Julian Knight to describe this as ‘one of the proudest days in the company's history’

JenningsBet’s Ron Hearn has been named as the 2017 Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year.

Hearn, who has earned a living working in the industry for 40 years, received the prestigious award seeing off the competition of seven other finalists from Ladbrokes, Coral, Megabet, Paddy Power and William Hill.

Managing Director of JenningsBet Julian Knight told TotallyGaming.com: “I think it's fair to say that this is one of the proudest days in the company's history. We've had finalists before, but have never won, Ron will be a superb ambassador for the industry at a time when we need it. For us at Jennings it is vindication of all the hard work our staff put in. We face challenging times ahead and with the dedication and commitment of Ron and many more like him it proves that for many the Betting shop still is a much loved hub of the community.”

Commenting after the awards ceremony, a jubilant Hearn commented to the Racing Post: “It is nice for an independent to win it and also for a little bit of recognition. After 40 years, I can now say every day was worth it.”

He added: “In an ideal world, with each customer who comes in the door you have got to make them think they are the person you have opened the door for.

“I still think it is a great industry. The thing is you need to encourage a few more youngsters in who are going to see it through.”

As part of his prize Hearn will be treated to a VIP trip to one of Singapore’s major race meetings next year, courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club. He and his team will also be the first guests of SIS in their Ascot box next month.

Totally Gaming says: For Managing Director Julian Knight to describe this as ‘one of the proudest days in the company's history’ it speaks volumes for just how much the bookmaker values high levels of retail customer service. With the recommencing of the ‘Back Your Local Bookie’ campaign this week, this type of focus on excel in customer service helps affirms the case that betting shops are a hub of local communities.
