The week began on the 14th of May

Arena Racing Company (“ARC”) and Royal Windsor Racecourse have united in support of Mental Health Awareness Week, which began on Monday 14th May.

Focussing on coping with, and tackling, stress, Mental Health Foundation will be spending the week promoting the ways in which people across the country can improve their mental health in their daily lives.

Mental Health Foundation will have a presence on course and via broadcaster At The Races during Royal Windsor’s famous Monday Night Racing fixture, raising awareness of the simple tools we can all use to look after our mental health.  In addition, Racing Welfare will be at Royal Windsor on Monday, along with all other racecourses racing next week, to promote the work that they do to support racing’s people in this area.

Commenting on the importance of the issue, Sam Cone, PR & Communications Manager at ARC, told “Research has shown that around two thirds of people will face issues with their mental health over their lifetime and charities like Mental Health Foundation and Racing Welfare do fantastic work in promoting how to look after your mental health as well as working with people who are experiencing mental health issues.

“We are very lucky at ARC to host a number of high profile events, which engage with a large number of the public and we wanted to use this to help Mental Health Foundation and Racing Welfare with awareness and fundraising.”

Further detailing how ARC will be raising awareness about the issue he continued: “Our main event will be at Royal Windsor this evening, where we will be helping Mental Health Foundation engage with racegoers and our corporate partners (Jigsaw, Weatherbys Racing Bank, Racing Post, K&L Gates and At The Races) to spread their message, specifically about dealing with stress and its impact on your mental health.

“We'll be fundraising throughout the evening, donating sponsorship from our corporate partners and offering MHF the equivalent of 50p for every ticket sold to Windsor this evening.

“Throughout the rest of the week, all of our fixtures, alongside every other racecourse racing in Britain, will be supporting Racing Welfare. RW reps will be at every meeting over the week to promote the work they do to help racing's people, especially with regards their mental health.

“We'll be carrying racecard and CCTV adverts, interviewing Racing Welfare reps on the Racecourse tv and handing out green ribbons for people to show their support for the week, which we hope will help anyone with questions or concerns about their mental health to seek the help which is out there.”

Five of ARC’s corporate partners have pledged their support for the Mental Health Foundation via race sponsorship, which will be donated to the charity.

At The Races, Weatherbys Racing Bank and Racing Post are all involved, along with lawyers K&L Gates and sports branding agency, Jigsaw.  In addition, ARC will donate the equivalent of 50p for every ticket sold for Monday’s fixture at Royal Windsor to Mental Health Foundation.

Racegoers will be able to support the Mental Health Foundation via the purchasing of merchandise, including green ribbons, along with text and tap to donate and bucket collections on exit.

Mark Rowland, Director at Mental Health Foundation also commented on the new partnership: “More and more people are recognising how central our mental health is to just about every area of life. We are delighted that the team at ARC have given us this opportunity during Mental Health Awareness Week to take our message on the impact of stress to the racing community and raise vital funds for our work. We can't thank them enough for standing with us.’

Totally Gaming says: The importance of this cause can’t be understated for ARC and Royal Windsor Racecourse to unite and raise awareness about the struggles that come with mental health during this week, it can be incredibly important, especially given their audience.
