Sportradar Integrity Services to monitor betting activity on all PRO14 matches

Rugby union club competition the Guiness PRO14 has partnered Sportradar Integrity Services to stop its matches from being targeted by match-fixers.

The multi-year agreement sees all 152 games that take place each season monitored by Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System (FDS). This sees betting activity across 550 bookmakers around the world tracked for any unusual bets, which can then be investigated for any evidence of corruption.

FDS monitoring also tracks anonymised account-level data from more than 100 operators worldwide, ensuring the exact time, sum and account used to place suspicious bets can be fully investigated.

The partnership sees Sportradar Integrity Services strengthen its ties with rugby union. It already works with a number of governing bodies and competitions including World Rugby, the Six Nations, New Zealand Rugby Union and the Rugby Football Union.

The competition was established as the Welsh-Scottish League in 1999, before expanding to include teams from Ireland, Italy and South Africa alongside the Welsh and Scottish teams.

“As the Guinness PRO14 continues to grow and set new standards on the pitch and on the commercial front, it is vital that we ensure that the integrity of the Championship remains uncompromised,” PRO14 Rugby chief executive Martin Anayi said.

“Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of work around governance and this partnership with Sportradar adds an extra level of credibility and scrutiny to the tournament,” Anayi said. “Sportradar work with over 75 governing bodies and tournaments across the world and we are delighted to be a part of lengthy list that includes the FIFA, UEFA, the NBA, the NHL, World Rugby, Six Nations, EPCR, ECB, the RFL, the AFL, the IOC and the ICC.”

Spotradar Integrity Services managing director Andreas Krannich said he was delighted to be working alongside Guinness PRO14.

“Drawing upon our unrivalled experience in the field of sporting integrity, and driven by our market leading FDS solution, we are committed to helping our sporting partners detect and prevent manipulation, and to identify and mitigate all forms of integrity risk,” he said. “With our expanding footprint across rugby union internationally, we are more able to protect the game as a whole, and uphold the values and traditions of this globally loved sport.”
