Premier League trio bring football even closer to gambling industry

Leicester, West Brom and Norwich strengthen ties with operators

The amount of gambling-related commercial activity within the English Premier League looks set to expand after three more football clubs from the competition secured partnerships with betting operators. 

Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City have all secured deals with gambling operators.

Leicester City has struck a deal for online operator Betfair to become its official betting partner. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the club did confirm that the partnership will come into effect ahead of the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Elsewhere, West Bromwich Albion has signed a one-year deal for NetBet to serve as its betting partner for the 2015-16 campaign. Under the partnership, NetBet will have a branding presence on LED boards inside the team’s Hawthorns home stadium.

In addition, Norwich City, which last season gained promotion to the Premier League from the second-tier Championship, has struck a multi-year partnership with Coral.

Coral will become the club’s official betting partner and sponsor of the stands at the club’s Carrow Road home ground. The stand in question will now be known as the ‘Barclay Stand sponsored by Coral’.

Coral will benefit from branding placement on the front and back of the stand, while season ticket holders and club members will gain access to various special offers from the operator.

Meanwhile, in other football-related news, PokerStars has unveiled the details of a new marketing campaign that it has billed as its biggest yet. The Amaya-owned online gaming brand has rolled out the new campaign on the Facebook social media network.

The campaign will feature world football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr, who both of have sponsorship deals in place with the PokerStars. Ronaldo and Neymar will appear in short videos that portray poker as the centrepiece of their evenings, highlighting the social and competitive aspects of the game. 

The videos will feature on Ronaldo and Neymar’s official Facebook pages, before being launched on television channels around the world in two weeks’ time.

PokerStars plans to support the campaign with a separate promotion entitled ‘Dream Team Collection’, which features a range of online poker challenges and puzzles that incorporate the two footballers. Players will have the chance to win a number of prizes as well as a shot at $1m (€912,300).
