Ian Hogg has spoken of his confidence that GamCrowd can exploit a "gap in the market" after he was appointed as the new chairman of the crowd-funding and crowd-sourcing platform for the gaming industry.

Hogg, the founder of the now Genting-owned Fox Poker Club, spent almost four years at Sportech after joining the pools betting operator and supplier in October 2010.

“I am looking to see GamCrowd become established as the leader in crowd-based services for the gambling industry worldwide,” Hogg told

“We need to prove the model and make the business profitable, and to do that we need to successfully complete a series of roll outs, including crowd-sourcing and royalty crowd funding.”

At Sportech, Hogg held the position of chief operating officer, where he was responsible for the company’s consumer-facing business.

Before joining Sportech, Hogg worked at Arena Leisure, where he became managing director of specialist racing channel At The Races and oversaw the three-way joint venture between the channel, UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB and commercial broadcaster Channel 4.

Hogg is now keen to work alongside GamCrowd founder and chief executive officer Chris North to help the business to fulfil its potential.

“Chris North has done a great job staking a claim for the space and I want to help the company continue that work,” he added.

“It is still early days for crowd-funding and crowd-sourcing but you only have to look at companies like Kick Starter, People Per Hour and Lending Club to see the scale of the industry.

“GamCrowd is the first gambling-specialised crowd platform and we look forward to playing a fundamental role in the development of betting and gaming start-ups through equity crowd-funding, as well as providing an indispensible crowd-sourcing tool.

“The plans and the technology to do that are all looking very good ─ we just need to deliver now.”

North added: “Ian bought into the GamCrowd concept from day one as an investor and his appointment as chairman will be of huge benefit to the business.”
